WSIS: "good discussion, people were given a chance to speak out from all kinds of minority positions and it showed well what a powerful tool the internet is, from the perspective of independent journalism."
Ineke is based in Uganda and Cameroon and she came with the Grace initiative in which APC is also involved. Her objective was to learn about the debates that could have an effect on empowering of women in Africa.
She also came to network with people with similar interests, and to give a huge promotion to Grace project (walking around all stands and leaving their brochures). WSIS could be also a chance to link up with other research networks…
She is happy with accomplishing it so far, although it is very tiring. Ineke visited the debate on inclusion organized by Heinrich Boll Foundation: "good discussion, people were given chance to speak out from all kinds of minority positions and it showed well what a powerful tool the internet is, from the perspective of independent journalism."
Ineke also found it interesting to see together in one place people who usually speak from three very different perspectives — people who see the internet to be an important money-making tool, those who see it as a right (especially European groups) and finally people who see in ICT’s a powerful development tool.
"Those three positions will eventually have to come together to build what we all want to pursue."
