Gender matters for cybersecurity: Promoting an intersectional and human-centric approach to international and national cyber discussions

This project seeks to promote an intersectional gender approach to international and national cybersecurity governance by:

1. Conducting research to identify and analyse the most common cyber incidents and threats faced by women and gender-diverse people, and the differentiated impact they experience as a result.

2. Providing recommendations and tools for those seeking to uphold women’s rights and the rights of gender-diverse people in and through national cybersecurity strategies and in relevant international negotiations and processes.

3. Providing capacity building for optimal use of the guidance and tools developed.

Within this project, APC will produce:

a) Research on the most common cyber incidents and threats faced by women and gender-diverse people, including women human rights defenders, women journalists and women in politics, to inform policy interventions.

b) International advocacy: Engagement in global policy spaces and international negotiations concerning digital governance, to promote recognition of an intersectional gender approach to cybersecurity and relevant language in policy documents.

c) Technical assistance and capacity building: Development of guidance and tools for the inclusion of gender in national cybersecurity strategies and international cyber negotiations.
