The president of the Cameroonian non profit organisation and APC-member PROTEGE QV, Sylvie Siyam Siwe, was elected president of the GOREeTIC on Friday June 20 2008 in Senegal. She was unanimously voted in as the first president of the GOREeTIC nework – a newly created group of journalists, activists and ICT4D advocates who intend to make internet policy reform a top priority.
The network founders came together between June 17 and 20 to discuss internet-related policies in Central and Western Africa. They left on the last day of the workshop with a plan of action for research, a clear understanding of how policy reform can best be attained and a determined president.
The workshop run by the Association for Progressive Communications (APC) and supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC).
The GOREeTIC network, which will be coordinated by long-time internet rights advocate APC in 2008 and 2009 established a strategy in Senegal that aims to bring African authorities to favour universal access to ICTs for a more affordable and sustainable development of these specific targeted regions.
