The Ford Foundation supports visionary leaders and organisations on the frontlines of social change worldwide. Its goals for more than half a century have been to strengthen democratic values, reduce poverty and injustice, promote international cooperation and advance human achievement. Its headquarters are in the US and it has regional offices in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
With trends in donor funding shifting overwhelmingly towards project support and away from institutional support, APC is particularly appreciative of the programme support that the Ford Foundation provided from 1997 to 2002. The Ford Foundation also supported the APC Council Meeting in South Africa in 1997.

Increasingly, disinformation campaigns particularly target women and gender-diverse individuals, marginalised groups, and human rights and environmental activists. Of particular concern for APC are the disinformation campaigns that target feminist struggles and gendered discourse in an attempt to silence women, push them to self-censorship, and restrict their civic space.
These issue briefs highlight potential priority areas for funding that would bring the work of digital rights organisations and environmental justice actors closer together, based on the need for the two groups to work more collaboratively given the global environmental and climate emergency.

APC's roots are anchored in the environmental movements of the 1980s and 1990s, and many members have called for a strong network response to the global environmental crisis.
The APC Impact Report 2016-2019 encapsulates the APC network's high level impact over the four years of our strategic cycle, which ended in 2019. While the report looks back at our work, it also brings us forward through the strategic direction that we set for ourselves in the next four years.
How can accessibility in rural areas of Africa be improved? What are the challenges for women and girls in terms of internet access? How are internet shutdowns affecting African users? These are some of the issues that Josephine Miliza, Sophie Ngassa and Amanda Manyame focus on, as African experts on internet access with a strong gender perspective.
This project aims to build awareness and collaborative action on internet policy and regulation among activists in the global South by securing human rights in internet policy and regulation in Africa, and integrating a feminist and gender justice agenda in internet governance debates and processes.
Through the Local Action to Secure Internet Rights project, APC will facilitate national initiatives and support human rights campaigns in ten countries across the globe where opportunity, capacity and momentum already exist.
